With an MBA from the University of Durham, John continues to be involved with the Global Learning Centre at Durham Business School, University of Durham. 

As an external contributor, John specialises in Business Transformation and Change, Information Systems and E-Commerce for the school's Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Masters in Management (MA) programmes.  John is Module Leader for Business Transformation through Information Systems.

An ardent enthusiast of the distance learning programme, John has been involved in many aspects of delivering and supporting the programmes for over 10 years.

As well as delivering distance learning tuition, John also supervises masters level dissertations in the areas of Information Systems, Information Technology, Business Transformation and Change, Technology and Innovation, Training and Learning, The Internet and E-Commerce, Technology Management, Project Management and Quality Management. Over 70 dissertations supervised covering a plethora of subjects.

Dissertation topics previously supervised include: Information Systems, Information Technology, Software and Systems Development, Agile and RAD, Technology Project Management, Benefits Realisation, e-Business / e-Commerce / m-Commerce / e-Government, e-Learning, Social Networking, Knowledge Management, TQM, Quality Management, JIT and Lean approaches, Business Transformation, Business Process Reengineering, Business Consulting, Managing Creativity and Innovation, Risk Management.

John's current academic interests are in Agile and Benefit driven approaches to information systems project development, delivery and management, along with SME use of information systems
